One hundred and ninety two members of the Marlborough Academy of Dance and Drama (MAD) aged 4 to 18 delighted a packed audience at the Wyvern Theatre, Swindon on Saturday July 14.
The two hour Alice in Wonderland themed show entitled “Welcome to the Mad House” was designed to showcase the talents of the MAD members. There were group numbers, duets, solos, drama pieces, plenty of singing and a fantastic range of different genres of dance, ballet, tap, modern, jazz, and street dance.
The show was narrated by the Mad Hatter, played by Archie Fisher and in miniature by Huey Lockwood.
MAD owner, Cheryl Heuston, devised the show and all children who attend any MAD classes were invited to participate. One of the parents commented, “I couldn’t believe what a professional show it was, my daughter is eight and has been attending MAD stage school and ballet/tap/modern with Cheryl since she was three – it was completely amazing to see how Cheryl and her teachers have inspired the children – who clearly loved every minute. Every single performance was a highlight.”
Cheryl Heuston has run MAD since its inception in 2013 and seen it grow from fifty to more than two hundred and fifty members with a team of four additional specialist teachers. The classes take place in various locations in Marlborough and Ramsbury.
After the show she commented, “I could not be prouder of my students, from the 4-year-olds who do pre-primary ballet to my Grade 6 modern and pointe classes. They have worked so hard in rehearsals. Seeing so many children of all ages enjoying performing is what it’s all about.”
