Wiltshire Council has announced that Everleigh Household Recycling Centre – near Pewsey – will close completely after Tuesday, November 6.
A statement from the council says “This follows the Wiltshire Council’s cabinet decision earlier this month to close the centre, following a public consultation and careful consideration of the responses and other factors.”
“A number of factors influenced the final decision, including the amount of investment required to ensure the site continued to meet environmental standards, the fact the centre received significantly fewer visitors compared with all other Wiltshire household recycling centres, and the need to make savings.”
The availability of alternative sites also means the closure will impact fewer residents than closing any of the other sites. There are three neighbouring sites – Marlborough, Devizes, and Amesbury.
The decision was made at Wiltshire Council’s cabinet meeting of October 9. It was deemed to have been confirmed on October 19 after the time allowed for the decision to be challenged or ‘called-in’ by a Councillor had elapsed.
